Early Pickup
Students are dismissed at 3:00 p.m. daily. However, if the parent needs to pick up the child before dismissal, he/she must report to the front office to sign the student out and the office workers can call for the child. Make sure all persons that are allowed to pick up your child are listed on your child's enrollment card. This is very important on days when you have to send someone else to pick up your child. Make sure that your child's enrollment card has all working contact numbers. There will also be times when the school will send home copies of additional enrollment cards to update any changes in contact numbers or addresses, etc.

On days when there is early dismissal, the school will send home notices to parents early in the week before the dismissal day arrives. The school sends notices home all of the time informing the parents about events coming up.
Discipline Management
The school and all classrooms have rules and consequences in order to ensure a safe and orderly environment. There are various levels (Levels 1- 3) of infractions that will require different types of actions. Usually, the level 1 violations are handled by the teacher in the classroom before the problem escalates to a greater violation. In these instances, it is very important that we keep a record of committed violations, reoccurrence of violations, and steps taken to resolve the problem. It is also necessary for the parent to be involved as we seek solutions to whatever problem is occurring.

Constant repetition of infractions will cause a level 1 violation to be elevated to a level II or III violation that will require an alternative placement, being either an In School Suspension or an Out of School Suspension.
Curriculum
We are a kindergarten through fifth grade school, and our curriculum is based on the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) mandated by the state of Texas. Our basic schedule during the day includes a 90- minute block for reading in order to cover basic and required skills to master the reading and language arts content. Our major emphasis is in reading and math; therefore, we have devised in our instructional schedule a 90-minute block for Reading and a 60-minute block for math. All other subject areas require 45 minutes; however we extend time in each subject as needed.

The Reading program for the kindergarten through third grade levels is Open Court, and it is based on the following:
  • Research-based teaching .
  • High expectations and support for all students
  • Phonemic awareness and Print awareness
  • Explicit systematic Phonics Instruction
  • Fluency
  • Authentic Literacy Experiences
  • Integrated Instruction (Science and Social Studies)
  • Meaningful Comprehension Instruction

In Grades 4 and 5, The reading program is Harcourt Collections. It is a balanced, comprehensive program that provides all materials and support to help all students to become fluent, lifelong readers. Collections is research-based instruction and practice, organized in practical, easy-to-use lessons and components.

Collections covers every item in the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills). The features of effective reading instruction include literature, oral language, word identification, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension. Both reading programs include a formal and informal assessment.
  • Intervention Programs
We have various instructional programs to meet the individual needs of students that may be experiencing some problems. For kindergarten through second grade, we have the reading lab. For the third, fourth and fifth grade levels, we have the reading intervention and math intervention program where the intervention teachers pull those students that are experiencing problems in those subject areas and work with them in small groups.
